In Secure Brave at Wire in Real Delight

Louie Roussel III & Ronnie Lamarque's undefeated In Secure got up in the shadow of the wire to win the $75,000 Real Delight Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by a neck over 44-1 longshot Nicole's Dream Saturday at Arlington Park.

E. T. Baird rode the daughter of A. P. Indy to he third consecutive victory. The Real Delight was the second straight added-money score for the Roussel-trained filly, who captured the $40,000 Nervous John Stakes at Hawthorne Race Course earlier this month. She earned $45,000 for the score to more than double her career bankroll to $86,040.

"I don't think she broke as good as we would've liked," Baird said. "The horse next to us stumbled and got bumped a little getting away from there. It didn't seem to bother her. She took it really well and we sat off the 10-horse (Nicole's Dream) showing the way. When I called on her at the quarter pole, she gave me a lot of finish. She's a racehorse that's for sure. I hope the win made Louie's wedding (last night) a little more perfect."

Nicole's Dream, the longest price on the board in the nine-horse field, raced uncontested on the lead through fractions of 22.43, 45.82 and 58.14 before being overtaken by In Secure in the final yards. The winner was clocked in 1:11.13.

"She broke good and I was able to ride her away to the front," said Tommy Molina of Nicole's Dream. "She got caught in the last jump, but she ran hard all the way. We'll try again next time."

Feisty Princess was third, followed by Abounding Truth, Leaseholders, Crow Jane, Cashmere Miss, You Glitter Girl and Beach Plum.

The 6-5 favorite, In Secure paid $4.40, $3.40 and $3.20. Nicole's Dream returned $24 and $10.20. Feisty Princess paid $5.60.

Two races later, Baird was back in the winner's circle with William Stiritz' Win Won, who captured the day's secondary feature, the $40,000 Your Ladyship Handicap for Illinois-registered fillies and mares. The daughter of Air Forbes Won covered the seven-furlongs in 1:24.92 and paid $10.40, $4.80 and $3.40.
