Four-year-old War Emblem (Our Emblem--Sweetest Lady, by Lord At War) earned $3,491,000 in his two years of racing.
Eclipse Award winner War Emblem, who experienced difficulties at the Yoshida family's Shadai Stallion Station during his first season at stud this year, has been transferred to the insurance companies, according to Japanese newspaper reports. Three of the four insurance companies that insured him agreed to pay about ¥1.6 billion (approximately $13.3 million). Shadai purchased War Emblem, winner of last year's Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I), for nearly $18 million last September from Russell L. Reinemann and The Thoroughbred Corp.War Emblem's problem was diagnosed as stemming from an unwillingness to cover mares and not from fertility complications. He didn't cover his first mare until March 9 and covered five more in the next several days before regressing. Shadai has expressed an interest in purchasing War Emblem from the insurance companies.
