Belmont Notes: Velazquez on Supervisor; Seven Likely Starters; Rain Possible Saturday

Seven Likely Starters in Belmont
Funny Cide is likely to face six challengers when he tries to win the Belmont Stakes on Saturday and become the 12th Triple Crown champion.

With the decision to pull Preakness runner-up Midway Road out of contention Monday, the field for the 1 1/2 -mile Belmont looks like this: Funny Cide, Empire Maker, Best Minister, Dynever, Scrimshaw, Supervisor and Ten Most Wanted.

Velazquez to Ride Longshot Supervisor
Jockey John Velazquez has picked up the mount on Rodney Lundock's Supervisor for the Belmont Stakes. A well beaten third to Go Rockin' Robin in the Peter Pan who will be a longshot Saturday, Supervisor galloped 1 1/2 miles Tuesday.

"I was thinking of doing something with him, but he's a little light so we just galloped," trainer Linda Rice said. "He just ran. He's fit. He's a longshot, but he's got a race over the track, soundness and he's experienced."
