Weight assignments will be announced by Suffolk Downs Director of Racing John Morrissey on June 14. Final entries will be drawn at the Moseley Handicap post-position draw and press conference on June 18.
Graded-stakes winners My Cousin Matt, Peeping Tom, Say Florida Sandy, and Here's Zealous join defending champion Stormin Oedy on the list of 34 nominations for the $200,000 James B. Moseley Breeders' Cup Handicap on June 21 at Suffolk Downs. My Cousin Matt, owned by Richard Englander and trained by Scott Lake, won the General George Handicap (gr. II) at Laurel in February before finishing fifth in the six-furlong $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-I) on March 29. He has not run since that race."The trip to Dubai is a little hard on the horses, but this is a tremendous animal," said Lake. "He breezed well for me the other day, so I think he is back to his old self. I think he is right there with the top sprinters in the country at his best."Peeping Tom captured the 2001 Carter Handicap (gr. I) and was second, behind My Cousin Matt, in this year's General George. He is trained by Patrick Reynolds for Flatbird Stable."We'll have a better picture of this horse running after the weights are given out," said Reynolds. "If the weight's fair, we'll be there."Say Florida Sandy is a multiple-graded stakes winner and the only New York-bred to amass over $2 million in career earnings. Here's Zealous finished second to Shake You Down in the Bold Ruler (gr. III) at Belmont, defeating both Peeping Tom (3rd) and Say Florida Sandy (5th). He was scratched from last Saturday's True North Handicap (gr. II), which was won by Shake You Down.Stormin Oedy is aiming to return to the East Boston oval to defend his title. The 6-year-old Mike Petro-trainee topped a field of six in last year's edition of the race.Others pointing toward the Moseley Handicap are Captain Red, owned by Anthony Pyliotis of Saugus, MA, local stakes winner Dhaffir and Run Kush Run, the last horse to defeat Shake You Down, winner of four straight and arguably the best sprinter on the East Coast.
