Whittingham Dominated by Storming Home

Storming Home, whose United States debut in the Jim Murray Handicap last month produced an electrifying victory, is a strong favorite over five rivals in Saturday's $350,000 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park.

The 5-year-old English-bred son of Machiavellian, trained by Neil Drysdale, will carry 124 pounds and spot his opponents from eight to 12 pounds in the 1 1/4-mile turf test.

In the Murray, run May 10, Storming Home ran away from Denon in the stretch over the Hollywood Park grass to post an impressive two-length victory. Denon won the Manhattan (gr. IT) at Belmont Park for trainer Bobby Frankel on Saturday.

The group I winner in England has career earnings of more than $1.1 million for owner Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid al Maktoum. Storming Home won the Champion Stakes (Eng-I) at Newmarket last year and captured the King Edward VII Stakes (Eng-II) at Royal Ascot in 2001.

Also in the field is Amerman Racing Stables' Blue Stellar, whose last start was an allowance victory at Santa Anita on March 21. The well regarded Irish-bred son of Barathea had been on the East Coast for the past few months, but his training schedule for trainer Bobby Frankel was interrupted on several occasions by poor weather and he never started.
