Hollywood Park Racing secretary Martin Panza has invited 14 fillies to the second running of the $750,000 American Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/4 mile on turf July 5.The invitational list includes Southern California-based Quero Quero, winner of the Honeymoon Breeders' Cup Handicap; Atlantic Ocean, winner of the Miesque Stakes and runner-up in the Honeymoon; Santa Catarina, winner of the Hollywood Breeders' Cup Oaks, and Go For Glamour. Other North American invitees include Fortuitous, winner of the Natalma Stakes at Woodbine last year; Gal O Gal, winner of the Herecomesthebride Stakes at Gulfstream; Ocean Drive, winner of the Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland, and Sand Springs and Personal Legend, one-two finishers, respectively, in the Regret Stakes at Churchill Downs.European invitees include Dimitrova, winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas Trial Stakes; Golden Nepi, winner of the Italian 1000 Guineas Stakes; Meridiana, winner of the Italian Oaks; Mandela, a double stakes winner in Germany, and Welcome Millenium, winner of the Criterium du Bequet in France last year.Welcome Millenium, who joined the Ron McAnally stable here earlier this month after being purchased privately by Arnold Zetcher, worked for the second time on the turf Sunday, covering six furlongs in 1:16.80. Golden Nepi is scheduled to join the Laura de Seroux stable Wednesday after being flown from Italy. Dimitrova and Meridiana are scheduled to arrive here June 30 from Ireland and Germany, respectively.
Panza said that 11 of the14 invitees are probable starters. A list of provisional invitees will be used to fill any openings.
