Two Track Records in One Day at Colonial

The first day of July brought two new track records to Colonial Downs near New Kent, Va. After a sprinkler malfunctioned, all nine of the Tuesday's scheduled races were run on the main track.

The first record fell after Bid Wild won the fourth race, going 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:02.68. The Once Wild gelding set fractions of :21.99, :44.29, and :56.29. The previous record of 1:02.94 was set by Ameri Prospect in 1997. Domingo Sorto guided the horse to his win. He is trained by George Parish. Sr.

In the seventh race the recordsetter was Timothy Mac. The 5-year-old sped to a head victory over Platinum Ticket and won the five-furlong contest with a time of :55.74. The previous record was :56.66, set by Band Performance in 2000. Travis Dunkelberger rode the winner for trainer Scott Lake.

Colonial Downs opened in 1997. The track will offer live racing July 3, July 4, and July 5.
