Candy Ride May Work Up to Pacific Classic

Trainer Ron McAnally said Saturday that he is unsure whether he'll run American Handicap (gr. IIT) winner Candy Ride once more before sending his emerging Argentine star to the Aug. 24 Pacific Classic (gr. I) at Del Mar.

McAnally reported that the undefeated 4-year-old Candy Ride, who captured Friday's 1 1/8-mile grass feature by three-quarters of a length over Special Ring, came out of his first North American stakes victory in good order.

"He's in good shape today," McAnally said. "That was really an exciting race; he's a very special horse. I'm not sure if he'll run again before (the Pacific Classic) because he's such a good work horse, I could just work him between now and then and he'd be fit enough to go the mile and a quarter. I'll just have to wait and see."

With his second American win for owners Sid and Jenny Craig, Candy Ride remained undefeated in five career starts.
