The Tattersalls July auction opened in strong fashion Tuesday in England. The sale company reported that the average surged 32% from a year ago to a record for an opening session of 14,451 guineas (approximately $25,034 in U.S. funds). The gross for the 56 horses sold was 809,300 guineas ($1,401,857), second only to last year's opening session total.The unraced Rainbow Quest mare Allumette brought the top price of 90,000 guineas ($155,827). Sold in foal to Medicean, she was purchased by Paul Arnold on the behalf of Patrick Churchward's Westerlands Stud. Her consignor was Cheveley Park Stud.
