Well Fancied Pulls Away in Evan Shipman

Edgar Prado sat chilly aboard Well Fancied for the first two-thirds of the $113,100 Evan Shipman, then pulled away from the field in the homestretch to win the 1 1/16-mile New York-bred stakes race in 1:40 4/5 on closing day Sunday at Belmont Park.

Racing moves to Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Wednesday. The 36-day Spa meeting will conclude on Labor Day, Sept. 1. Belmont Park will reopen on Friday, Sept. 5.

Well Fancied earned $67,860 for owners Sanford Goldfarb, Stewart Hoffman and Jonathan Flesig. The victory was worth $5.60 for a $2 win wager.

Well Fancied -- a 5-year-old statebred gelding by Prosper Fager, out of Patty's Fancy Tric (Tricky Creek) -- improved his career record to 8-4-4 from 24 starts with earnings of $412,846. Seymour Cohn bred him.

Compelling World and Shaun Bridgmohan were the best of the rest and finished second. Sherpa Guide, who stumbled at the start, finished third under Jose Santos.
