Stakes-Winning, Stakes Producer Debby's Turn Dead

Stakes producer Debby's Turn, whose 13 career stakes wins included four in a little over a month, was euthanized July 24. The 29-year-old daughter of Turn to Mars was kept at Dr. Reynolds Cowles' Yadkin Stud near Charlottesville, Va.

Debby's Turn's win streak as a 2-year-old in 1976 started with a triumph in the Polly Drummond Stakes. She then went on to capture in succession the Schuylkill Stakes, Timonium Futurity, and Marlboro Nursery Stakes.

Debby's Turn, who was produced from the Debbysman mare Gunnysdeb, was a graded stakes winner in each of the next two years. She won a division of the 1977 Open Fire Stakes (gr. IIIT) and the following year's Margate Handicap (gr. III).

Bred by Helen Wallace, Debby's Turn was retired from racing with 26 wins from 76 races and earning of $469,087 for the Red Hill Farm of Wallace and her husband, John. As a broodmare, Debby's Turn produced seven winners from nine foals. The best of the group was stakes winner and prominent Florida stallion Tour d'Or.
