Toccet Breezes on Turf for First Time

Toccet, the promising 3-year old who fell off the Visa Triple Crown trail with a right leg injury in February, worked on the grass at Pimlico Race Course, covering six furlongs in 1:19. Trainer John Scanlan had to move the work from his Laurel Park base because the turf course was closed for workouts.

"He had never been on the turf before so we wanted to get a nice long breeze in him," said Scanlan. "We got what we wanted out of him."

Toccet, who has not run since his victory in last December's Hollywood Futurity (gr. I), is expected to make his much anticipated return at Arlington Park next month. The son of Awesome Again will then be pointed toward the Pennsylvania Derby on Labor Day weekend and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) on the grass in France in October before the Breeders' Cup Classic.

In addition to winning the Hollywood Futurity, Toccet was also victorious in the Champagne Stakes (gr. I), Remsen Stakes (gr. II), and Laurel Futurity (gr. III) as a 2-year old.
