Toccet Works on Turf at Pimlico

Dan Borislow's Toccet, with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe among his targets, had his first turf work Thursday, breezing 6 furlongs in 1:19 at Pimlico. Trainer John Scanlan had to move the work from his Laurel Park base because the turf course was closed for workouts.

"He had never been on the turf before so we wanted to get a nice long breeze in him," said Scanlan. "We got what we wanted out of him."

"We two-minute licked him, then let him run down the lane," Borislow said. "He went his last quarter in :23, and the Pimlico clocker said he really liked the work. I was afraid, because they had the dogs way out, and the horse had to work on the far outside of the course. But we saw what we wanted to see. Our plans are still the same; nothing's really changed, except I'm getting more confident. Physically, he's doing great."

Toccet is scheduled to begin his comeback in a small stakes to be written for him at Philadelphia Park on Aug. 19, then run in the Pennsylvania Derby on Sept. 1 before heading heading to France to prepare for the Arc.

Toccet has not started since winning the hollywood Futurity last December. In addition to the Hollywood Futurity, Toccet has also won the Champagne, Remsen, and Laurel Futurity.
