Candy Ride, Mineshaft Top Classic Future Bet

Pacific Classic (gr. I) winner Candy Ride, at 7-2, and Suburban (gr. I) hero Mineshaft, 9-2, drew much of the attention among the 23 Breeders' Cup Classic-Powered by Dodge (gr. I) betting interests in the Breeders' Cup Future Bet Round 2.

Besides those two, only Empire Maker, 6-1, among those listed for the Classic, was in single digits as the pool drew to a close Sept. 1. The Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championship races will be held Oct. 25 as part of the Oak Tree meet at Santa Anita Park in California.

With win betting only, Candy Ride, who is not nominated to the race, attracted $18,613 of the total $104,303 wagered on the Classic.

Azeri was the most dominant favorite in the four races that made up Pool 2. The defending Horse of the Year is 9-5 in the Breeders' Cup Distaff - Presented By Nextel (gr. I), attracting $9,790 of the $32,894 wagered. Sightseek was fancied at 5-1 and Wild Spirit is 9-1.

In the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) future wagering, Forego (gr. I) winner Aldebaran, another who is not a certain starter due to his limitations at the six-furlong distance, was the 5-1 choice over Beau's Town, 6-1. Aldebaran ($5,361) and Beau's Town ($4,723) accounted for $10,084 of the $42,641 in the pool.

Storming Home and High Chaparral are the lukewarm 6-1 favorites for the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT), with Storming Home ($4,783) slightly preferred over his Irish-bred opponent (4,473). Two other Irish breds, Alamshar and Sulamani, are 8-1 in the Future Bet. A total of $42,218 was wagered on the BC Turf.

A total of $222,056 was bet on the BCFB Round 2.
