Four-year-old Mineshaft, who was produced from the grade I-winning Mr. Prospector mare Prospectors Delite, won the Sept. 6 Woodward Stakes (gr. I) in his last start to up his earnings to $1,683,402. Trained by Neil Howard, he has won two other grade I stakes this year and boasts a career record of nine wins from 17 starts. He is a full brother to millionaire Tomisue's Delight and stakes winner Rock Slide, and a half-brother to Irish group winner Monashee Mountain and stakes winner Delta Music.
Mineshaft, who tops the NTRA poll, will enter stud in 2004 at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky. Plans call for him to contest the Sept. 27 Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I) and Oct. 25 Breeders' Cup Classic-Powered by Dodge (gr. I), then head to Lane's End to stand for breeders/owners Farish, James Elkins, and W. Temple Webber Jr. alongside his sire, A.P. Indy. There are no plans to syndicate him, and a fee will be announced later.
