Two Colts Bring $30,000 Each at Louisiana Sale

Two colts, one by Zuppardo's Prince and one by Just a Cat, brought $30,000 each to top the Sept. 29 yearling auction conducted by the Breeders Sales Co. of Louisiana.

Conducted at Louisiana Downs, the sale saw 162 yearlings sold for $1,112,650, an average of $6,911 and a median of $5,200. Another 53 head were listed as not sold.

A smaller mixed session was held the following day in which 68 were sold for $139,250, an average of $2,048 and a median of $1,200. There were 15 bought back.

Brittlyn Stable bought the Zuppardo's Prince colt from Clear Creek Stud, agent. The colt is out of the Northern Baby mare Redwood Rose and was sold just after a weekend in which Northern Baby was represented as the broodmare sire of two stakes winners. The chestnut colt is a full brother to stakes winner Zuppy and his dam is a half-sister to two stakes winners by Zuppardo's Prince, Zuppardo Ardo and Jerold's Princess.

Zuppardo's Prince is also connected to the other sale topper. That colt is by Just a Cat and out of the Zuppardo's Prince mare To Geaux. He is just the second foal produced from the stakes placed mare. Consigned by Gabriel Thoroughbreds, the Just a Cat colt was purchased by Quality Farm, J. Davis, agent.
