167 Pre-Entered for Maryland Million Oct. 11

A total of 167 offspring of Maryland stallions have been pre-entered in the 11 races which comprise the 2003 Maryland Million Oct. 11 at Laurel Park.

Now in its 18th year, Maryland's big day will be presented at Laurel Park on Oct. 11. Three of the pre-nominees are returning to defend their 2002 titles. The post position draw will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m..

In the $200,000 Maryland Million Classic, 2002 winner Docent will try to join Timely Warning (1990 & 1991) and Algar (1997 & 1998) as back-to-back winners of the race. Eleven horses have been nominated, including Jorgie Stover, who won the 2001 Sprint.

This year's $100,000 Sprint looks like the most competitive race on the card. Fifteen horses have been nominated, including defending champion Deer Run and six other added money winners: Crossing Point, Love Happy, Love Sam, Lightning Paces, He's A Knockout and In C C's Honor. Ameri Brilliance hasn't won an added money race in his career but owns the four-furlong world record.

Top Of The News, who won the 2002 Maryland Million Starter Handicap, looks to repeat in the $50,000 race.

The other races to be contested are the $100,000 Turf, the $100,000 Lassie, the $100,000 Nursery, the $100,000 Oaks, the $100,000 Distaff, the $100,000 Ladies, the $50,000 Distaff/Starter Handicap and the $25,000 Sprint Starter Handicap.
