Trapper Nabs Green Team in Meadows Sprint

Trapper, ridden by Russell Baze, rallied gamely in the stretch to tag favored Green Team by a neck to win Saturday's $100,000 California Sprint Championship at Bay Meadows.

Ten-year-old Men's Exclusive finished third after stalking the pace as the second favorite in the field of seven, finishing 1 1/2 length behind the runner-up. The winning time for the six-furlong dash for California breds was 1:10 1/5.

Trapper won his fourth consecutive race. Trained by William Morey, the 3-year-old Iron Cat colt stalked the leaders down the backstretch as Con Quixote set the pace of :22 1/5 and :44 2/5 before giving way to Green Team, the 8-5 choice ridden by Ron Warren Jr. Trapper, with three lengths to make up down the lane, shifted out for the drive and collared Green Team in the final strides.

In his first appearance in stakes competition, Trapper earned $52,800 for owner Joseph P. Morey Jr. Revocable Trust. He now boasts five wins and a pair of seconds in seven career starts with earnings of $133,960.

The fourth choice at odds of 5-1, Trapper paid $12.60, $4.40 and $2.80. Green Team returned $3 and $2.40. Men's Exclusive, who hit the board for the 31st time in 46 starts, was ridden by Jason Lumpkins and paid $3.
