Heat Haze, Tates Creek Top Southern Cal Workers

Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT) candidates Heat Haze and Tates Creek were both on the Hollywood Park worktab Sunday morning, logging half-miles in :47 2/5 and :48, respectively.

"They went good," said Humberto Ascanio, trainer Bobby Frankel's assistant. "Heat Haze went a little too fast, but what are you going to do? They can't be perfect all the time and I think she'll be fine. Tates Creek's work was what I wanted, so everything seems to be good and on track for (the Breeders' Cup)."

Heat Haze last raced on Sept. 27 where she finished third in the Flower Bowl Invitational Handicap (gr. IT) at Belmont Park. Jockey Jerry Bailey has the mount aboard the 4-year-old daughter of Green Desert in the Breeders' Cup. Tates Creek won the Yellow Ribbon Invitational Handicap (gr. IT) at Oak Tree at Santa Anita in her last start on Sept. 28. Patrick Valenzuela will be aboard the 5-year-old Rahy mare on Racing's Championship Day.

Ascanio said that all of the Frankel-trained Breeders' Cup runners will remain at Hollywood Park and be shipped to Santa Anita a "couple" of days before.

"Just enough time for them to school and see the track a little," Ascanio said.
