Congaree Shows No Effects of Quarter Crack in Breeze

Stonerside Stable's Congaree, prepping for the Oct. 25 Breeders' Cup Classic-Powered by Dodge (gr. I), showed no negative effects of a quarter crack that has been bothering him when the horse breezed six furlongs in 1:11 1/5 at Santa Anita Sunday morning.

"He went really nice and he did it really easily," trainer Bob Baffert said. "Now we just have to see how he comes out of it. He moved so effortlessly, and that is what you like to see. The quarter crack was not bothering him, but we are still dealing with that. It is still day to day and it is one of those things that it could go bad at the last minute. It is hard to get excited because we are dealing with it (the quarter crack."

A 5-year-old son of Arazi -- Mari's Sheba (by Mari's Book), Congaree finished second to Classic contender Perfect Drill in the Kentucky Cup Classic (gr. II) at Turfway Park.

Baffert has been treating the horse for a minor quarter crack on his left rear hoof.
