American Post Delivers in Racing Post Trophy

Prince Khalid Abdulla's 2-year-old American Post, supplemented for Saturday's Racing Post Trophy (Eng-I) for £17,500, delivered in a big way at Doncaster with a 1 3/4-length victory over Fantastic View.

The Bering colt, ridden by Christophe Soumillon, went clear in the final 100 yards after pressuring the early pacesetter Magritte for six furlongs. The final time for the mile on a good to firm course was 1:39.57. Magritte held on for third, finishing three lengths behind the winner.

Jamie Spencer put Magritte on an easy lead in the Racing Post, which drew a field of four, with American Post close from the start. Fantastic View, third early, was pushed along by jockey Pat Dobbs a quarter mile from home. The American-bred son of Distant View, bred by George Strawbridge and London Thoroughbred Services, made progress a furlong out, but could not draw even with the French-raced winner in the closing stages.

Winning trainer Criquette Head-Maarek was making her first trip to Doncaster. "I don't know what we will do next year because Prince Khalid has a lot of good two-year-olds over here too, but he has never won the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas), so perhaps he might want togo for that," she told The Racing Post.
