Whipper Treated to Maisons-Laffitte Victory

It was all a treat for Whipper as the 2-year-old colt easily won the Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte (Fr-II) on Halloween day. Whipper had been considered for the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I), but stayed in Europe instead to take the third victory in his seven-race career.

Whipper, owned by R.C. Strauss, tracked pacesetter Villadolide for the first half-mile of the six furlong Maisons-Laffitte before assuming command over the wet going. Under Chrisophe Soumillon, Whipper was a comfortable 2 1/2 lengths in front of Chineur at the finish, covering the six furlongs in 1:14.70. Black Escort was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third, with Raffelberger fourth. Mokabra, Villadolide, Le Boss, Ximb, Sister Moonshine, and Petardias Magic completed the order of finish.

Whipper was bred in the United States by Flaxman Holdings Ltd., and is conditioned by Robert Collet. The son of Miesque's Son out of the Sadler's Wells mare Myth to Reality earned $123,781 for his Halloween bag, bringing his lifetime earnings over the $300,000 mark. He went off at odds slightly above 2-1.
