Leading Sire Broad Brush Mending Following Surgery

Broad Brush, the leading sire in 1994 when his son Concern won the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), underwent arthrodesis surgery to his left fore fetlock Oct. 1 due to degenerative arthritis. The surgical procedure, performed by Dr. Larry Bramlage of Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital near Lexington, went uneventfully.

Twenty-year-old Broad Brush, who recently had his second cast removed Oct. 31, will commence a walking program in December. He is expected to be back on a normal turn out schedule at the start of the new year and ready for the start of the 2004 breeding season at Graham J. Beck's Gainesway Farm near Lexington.

Broad Brush (Ack Ack -- Hay Patcher, by Hoist the Flag) has sired 82 stakes winners, including last year's 3-year-old filly champion Farda Amiga.
