The trainer said Take Charge Lady exited the Oct. 25 Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) with a lung infection. "I think that maybe the fact that we ran her back in just three weeks from the (Overbrook) Spinster (grade I, at Keeneland) to the Distaff is maybe to close. But she has bounced back okay," McPeek said.Take Charge Lady has gotten a thorough going over from veterinarian Dr. Larry Bramlage and McPeek said he gave her a clean bill of health.
After flirting with the notion of running Take Charge Lady in Saturday's Churchill Downs Distaff (gr. II), trainer Ken McPeek is pointing the Select Stable runner toward a repeat effort in the Nov. 27 Falls City Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs. The Falls City, which is scheduled to be her final start of 2003, could go a long way in determining whether Take Charge Lady returns to race at five."We'll wait and see," said McPeek. "If she were to run her normal race and come back to what she's done in the past it would enhance her chances to run next year. If she were to run poorly, it would enhance her chances to become a broodmare."
