Grade I winner Tweedside to Storm Cat

Eugene and Laura Melnyk's grade I-winning Tweedside, who was retired earlier this year after a 20-start career, will be bred to Storm Cat during the 2004 breeding season.

A 5-year-old daughter of Gulch -- Twitchet, by Roberto, Tweedside won seven races, including four stakes and earned $646,791. Her big win came in the 2001 Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I). She won the 1 1/2-mile race by 7 3/4 lengths. Her other stakes victories came in the Orchid Handicap (gr. IIT), which came in her last career start on March 23, the Sheepshead Bay Handicap (gr. IIIT), and the Sands Point Stakes.

She placed in three stakes including a runner-up effort in the Very One Handicap (gr. IIIT) this year, and a third-place effort in the La Prevoyante Handicap (gr. IIT) in 2002. She was trained throughout her career by Todd Pletcher.

A $100,000 Keeneland September purchase, Tweedside was bred in Kentucky by Dr. and Mrs. Smiser West and Mr. and Mrs. Mack Miller. She is a half-sister to two graded stakes winners: Evanescent, a winner of $972,015, and Saratoga Special Stakes (gr. II) winner Tactical Advantage. Tweedside is a half-sister to four stakes-placed runners.
