Zavata to Stand at Walmac in 2004

Graded stakes winning sprinter Zavata, who is being pointed to the Dec. 26 Malibu Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita, will stand next year at John T.L. Jones' Walmac near Lexington.

Owned by Michael Tabor, the 3-year-old Phone Trick colt will by syndicated. He will stand for $7,500.

Zavata was a precocious 2-year-old, sent out by trainer Patrick Biancone for his first start on Kentucky Derby day 2002 in the Three Chimneys Juvenile. He finished second, and then came back to win three straight including the Saratoga Special (gr. II) and Tremont Stakes (gr. III).

This year, Zavata has won two races, among them the Amsterdam Stakes (gr. II) at Saratoga. He has won five of 12 starts and has earnings of $346,533. In his most recent outing, Zavata finished 12th in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I).

Produced from the Cox's Ridge mare Port Lady, Zavata was bred in Kentucky by Mill Ridge Farm and Dr. John Chandler. He was sold by Mill Ridge for $170,000 at the 2001 Keeneland September yearling sale. He was bought by Tabor for $575,000 at the 2002 Fasig-Tipton Florida February juvenile sale.
