Belleski, winner of the Senator Ken Maddy Handicap (gr. IIIT) on the hillside turf course at Santa Anita in her last start Oct. 11, will return in the $500,000 Matriarch (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park Nov. 30, trainer John Sadler confirmed Thursday."She was a stakes winner, then a graded winner, now the idea is to win a Grade I," said Sadler of the one-mile grass stake for fillies and mares. "She's a nice filly and very consistent."Sadler had planned to work the 4-year-old filly on the turf here but the drill was postponed at least one day after a freak rainstorm hit the area Wednesday and forced cancellation of grass works on Thursday.
Belleski, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Polish Numbers, has won five of 10 starts and earned $238,019 for owners Jerry and Ann Moss. Sadler was looking for a jockey since regular rider Victor Espinoza will be in Japan that week.A large field, headed by defending champion Dress To Thrill, is expected for the race, which shares the spotlight that day with the $600,000 Hollywood Derby (gr. IT).
