Best of the Rest to Stand at Farnsworth in Florida

Popular Florida millionaire Best of the Rest, who is experiencing his best season this year at age eight, will enter stud at Michael Sherman's Farnsworth Farms near Ocala, Fla. But first, the son of Skip Trial might contest the Dec. 27 Fred W. Hooper Handicap (gr. III) at his home track of Calder Race Course in what would be his final start for breeder/owner Bea Oxenberg and trainer Edward Plesa Jr.

His sire's all-time richest runner after Horse of the Year Skip Away, Best of the Rest has won three stakes and earned $733,500 in 2003. He captured this year's Skip Away Handicap (gr. III), the $1-million Ocala Breeders Sales Co. Classic Stakes over Booklet, and the Carl G. Rose Classic Handicap for the second consecutive year.

Best of the Rest, who was produced from the Valid Appeal mare Obstinacy, has won a career total of 16 of 31 starts and earned $1,387,796. Thirteen of those wins came in stakes, including the 2002 Memorial Day Handicap (gr. III). Best of the Rest placed in two previous runnings of the Fred W. Hooper.

Best of the Rest will remain the property of Oxenberg at stud and will stand for $3,500 live foal.
