Zabeel's Dam, Lady Giselle, Dead

Lady Giselle, the dam of Australian super sire Zabeel, has died at Arrowfield Stud in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, according to the Australian Associated Press. The 21-year-old mare was put down after suffering complications while foaling a Redoute's Choice colt, who did not survive the ordeal.

An unraced daughter of Nureyev out of the Val de Loir mare Valderna, Lady Giselle was imported to New Zealand's Ra Ora Stud in the 1980s.

Zabeel, by Sir Tristram, won the 1990 Cadbury Australian Guineas (Aust-I) and five years later, his half-brother, Baryshnikov (by Kenmare), did the same. Zabeel stands at Cambridge Stud in New Zealand and has so far sired 24 individual group I winners in Australasia. His progeny includes champions Octagonal and Might And Power. Baryshnikov stands at stud in England.
