Power Set for Trial on Horse Theft Charge

California owner-breeder Michael Power is scheduled to face trial on a felony theft charge in Superior Court in Placer County, Calif. on Feb. 24.

Power, of Auburn, Calif., was ordered to stand trial following a preliminary hearing into the charge Dec. 3. He has pleaded not guilty. A pre-trial hearing is set for Feb. 2.

The county prosecutor alleges Power took $6,250 from a partner, Dr. Nelson Vetranze of Aurora, Colo., as payment toward a horse he didn't own and refused to return the money. Power contends the money was applied to Vetranze's $25,000 debt to him on the purchase of two other horses.

Power, who owns the popular California stallion Siberian Summer, could receive up to three years in state prison if found guilty.
