Ivanavinalot Pointed Toward Frances Genter Stakes

Gilbert Campbell's homebred 3-year-old filly Ivanavinalot will be among the topcontenders in Saturday's $100,000 Frances A. Genter Stakes at Calder Race Course, going 7 1/2 furlongs on turf, her second start on grass.

The daughter of West Acre finished a good third last out in the My Charmer Handicap (gr. IIIT) against seasoned older turf stakes mares, setting the pace past the furlong pole before tiring late in her turf course debut.

"That was a make or break race for her," said trainer Kathleen O'Connell. "If she hadn't run so well, she would have been going home as a broodmare after her previous race."

Prior to the My Charmer, Ivanavinalot returned from a layoff of nearly five months to finish last of nine and was eased at the end of the Snazzle Dazzle overnight stakes on Nov. 8, a race scheduled for turf but forced to the fast main track.

"I didn't know what to think. There wasn't a thing wrong with her. I just couldn't imagine she could train as well as she did and run that badly. At this point I don't know if the difference was the turf, but we're going to go ahead run Saturday even if the race comes off."
