Rising Ohio River Halts Simulcasts at River Downs

River Downs near Cincinnati, Ohio, shut down its simulcasting operation Jan. 8-9 because the level of the Ohio River continues to rise, track officials said.

The Ohio River runs along the backstretch at River Downs. In years past, it has overflowed its banks and covered not only the racing surfaces but the floor of the grandstand and clubhouse.

A flood in the late 1990s caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to the track's renovated first floor of the track's clubhouse.

Track officials said the status of operating hours for Jan. 10 would be determined as soon as possible.
