Adena Springs Topped Breeders' Earnings List in 2003

Frank Stronach's Adena Springs, with earnings of $11,550,052, heads the list of leading individual breeders in North America in 2003, according to statistics released Monday by The Jockey Club Information Systems, Inc. Adena Springs bred the winners of 296 races from 1,956 starts and is followed by the late John Franks who bred the winners of 449 races from 3,367 starts, for earnings of $9,717,890.

Adena Springs also tops a second breeder list that includes partnerships, although the nursery was not represented by any runners bred in partnership. Runner-up was John Franks who, alone or in partnership, bred the winners of 477 races from 3,577 starts, for earnings of $10,354,860.

Completing the list of top 10 individual breeders were: Farnsworth Farms, $8,340,590 (505 wins/3,750 starts); Mockingbird Farm, Inc., $7,193,734 (321/2,471); Juddmonte Farms, $6,980,540 (49/279); Brereton C. Jones, $5,148,902 (213/1,574); Mr. And Mrs. John C. Mabee, $4,795,883 (213/1,462); Edward P. Evans, $4,387,687 (114/800); Sam-Son Farm, $3,743,610 (55/265); and Gustav Schickedanz, $3,608,477 (39/219).

Rounding out the list of top 10 breeders including partnerships were: Farnsworth Farms, $9,671,452 (609 wins/4,691 starts); Mockingbird Farm, Inc., $7,212,324 (322/2,488); Juddmonte Farms, $7,004,937 (52/295); William S. Farish, $6,035,550 (142/968); Brereton C. Jones, $5,375,040 (222/1,679); Mr. And Mrs. John C. Mabee, $4,795,883 (no horses bred in partnership); Edward P. Evans, $4,387,687 (no horses bred in partnership); and Gustav Schickedanz, $4,331,685 (60/343).
