"It's a grade I race and the same distance as the La Brea (which Island Fashion won at seven furlongs on Dec. 27)," Polanco said of the Santa Monica. "The owner (Jeff Nielsen who races as Everest Stables) wants the grade I win."
Island Fashion was scratched from Sunday's El Encino Stakes (gr. II) and will point to next Sunday's Santa Monica Handicap (gr. I) instead, trainer Marcelo Polanco said Sunday.
