Glick, an 8-year-old bay horse running for a $62,500 claiming price Monday, broke the Santa Anita record for the about 6 1/2-furlong hillside turf course, covering the course in 1:11.26 while winning by 2 1/2 lengths.
Cayoke set the former hillside mark of 1:11.45 Jan. 16, 2003.
The son of Theatrical was making his first start for owner Bob Bone and trainer Jeff Mullins in the optional claiming event. He was claimed for $40,000 from Michael Gill at Hollywood Park on Dec. 20. Glick was not claimed Monday.
Ridden by Gary Stevens, Glick took dead aim at pacesetter F J's Pace while racing four wide into the stretch and won clear under a long hold. F J's Pace set some blistering early fractions (:21 2/5, :43 1/5) before giving way and finishing third, two lengths behind the 7-5 favorite Special Rate.
Bred in Kentucky by Allen E. Paulson, Glick was produced from the Mr. Prospector mare Bejat. He won for the 12th time in a 33-race career in which he has banked $467,431.
Glick had been based in the east until joining the Nick Canani barn at Hollywood Park in November.
The 3-1 second choice in a field of seven, he returned $8.20 for the win.
