The first foal for Malabar Gold arrived Jan. 27 at Phil T. Owens' Houstondale Farm near Lexington. The chestnut colt, bred by Owens, is out of Time to Renew, a 14-year-old daughter of Time for a Change.Malabar Gold, a 7-year-old son of Unbridled -- Stormy Spell, by Tsunami Slew, stands at Highclere near Lexington. His fee for 2004 is $7,500. A winner of six of 15 starts and $325,622, Malabar Gold won the San Simeon Stakes (gr. IIIT) at 6 1/2 furlongs and placed in the seven-furlong Jaipur (gr. IIIT) and Hollywood Turf Express (gr. IIIT) Handicaps. He was a $1-million sales yearling.
