Dalos has sold all Victorious Lil's foals except one. He is undecided whether to sell or keep the mare's Giant's Causeway yearling filly. Victorious Lil was in foal to Thunder Gulch at the time of her death.Dalos repurchased Victorious Lil's daughter, Romanticism, for $175,000 at the 2003 Keeneland November breeding stock sale from Margaux Farm, agent. Romanticism remains in foal to Millennium Wind. "I wanted to have a filly from her," Dalos said.
Ivan Dalos' Victorious Lil, dam of Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner and successful young sire Victory Gallop, died at age 15 after running into another broodmare at Briarbrooke Farm near Paris, Ky. The other mare also died in the Dec. 20 accident.Victory Gallop was Victorious Lil's first foal. Bred in Canada by Dalos' Tall Oaks Farm, Victory Gallop captured the 1998 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) to end Real Quiet's Triple Crown bid and earned an Eclipse Award the following year after winning the Whitney (gr. I) and Stephen Foster (gr. II) Handicaps, the latter in track-record time. As a stallion at WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky., Victory Gallop ranks second among second-crop stallions by lifetime progeny earnings. Dalos owns several shares in Victory Gallop.Dalos bought Victorious Lil for $25,839 from breeder Henry T. Waring at the 1990 Woodbine Sales Company September yearling sale from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency. Victorious Lil, by Vice Regent, captured the La Prevoyante Stakes and placed in three stakes during a career in which she won three of 27 starts and earned $170,334, all in Canada.
