Adoration, Star Parade Meet Again in 'Margarita

(from Santa Anita reports)
Breeders' Cup Distaff champion Adoration will have a rematch with Star Parade Sunday in the $300,000 Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap (gr. I) for fillies and mares at Santa Anita.

Adoration pulled off a 40-1 shocker in winning the Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) for trainer David Hofmans. To win Sunday she'll have to get past Star Parade, a 5-year-old Argentine import who beat Adoration and a host of other fillies and mares in the Santa Maria Handicap (gr. I) and the Bayakoa Handicap (gr. II).

A field of six will contest the 1 1/8-mile event. Adoration and multiple stakes winner Bare Necessities share top weight of 118 pounds each. Star Parade was assigned 115 and will be piloted by Victor Espinoza.

Chilean-bred La Tour, who stumbled and fell past the wire of the Santa Maria after finishing third, should provide a stronger effort this time, jockey Alex Solis said.

"She just was tired," Solis said in explaining her fall. "She had run so hard the whole way she was exhausted the last part. I worked her the other day (five furlongs in a bullet :58 1/5 March 3) and she worked awesome. I think she's going to improve. Each race she runs she gets better and better. Hopefully we'll get lucky this time."

La Tour won her United States debut last Dec. 13 in a one-mile turf race, then was third twice, in the restricted Paseana Handicap and the Santa Maria. The daughter of Hussonet has a 6-2-6 record with earnings of $100,088 for owner Nelson Bunker Hunt.
