Yearly Report Takes Center Stage in WinStar Oaks

Trainer Bob Baffert has two live Kentucky Derby (gr. I) prospects in Wimbeldon and Preachinatthebar, and now the white-haired trainer is searching for his Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) starter. On top of his Oaks list is Yearly Report, who will face nine rivals in Saturday's $250,000 WinStar/Sunland Park Oaks.

Yearly Report, a Golden Eagle Farm homebred, enters the mile WinStar/Sunland Park Oaks with the most credentials following a four-length win in the Jan. 19 Santa Ynez Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita. The daughter of General Meeting turned in a stakes record of 1:21.11 for the seven furlong fast main track test. The previous mark of 1:21 1/5 was set in 1979 by Terlingua, the dam of leading sire Storm Cat.

Red-hot jockey Javier Santiago and Yearly Report will break from post three.

Providing a pretty good challenge to Yearly Report will be the Steve Asmussen-trained Sister Swank, who finished third in the Silverbulletday Stakes (gr. II) and was second in the Thelma Stakes, both at Fair Grounds.

Heiligbrodt Racing Stable's Sister Swank will have the services jockey Shane Sellers and will break from post four.

The invaders could face a stiff challenge from local runner Skyladysky, who enters the race fresh from a mile allowance win over the Sunland oval. The daughter of Sky Classic has made her last three starts at Sunland for trainer Gary Cross. Skyladysky breaks from post nine under Ken Tohill.

Another local horse with an impressive resume is Homemaker, winner of the Princess Handicap at Sunland. The daughter of Afternoon Deelites most recently finished third in a mile allowance contest at Sunland. Homemaker and jockey Jorge Bourdieu break from post seven.
