Juvenile champion Action This Day will make his longest excursion when he ships April 5 to Keeneland for the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) on April 10, but Richard Mandella does not anticipate any problems with his 3-year-old. "He's good-natured but he's gotten a little bit too sharp in his races," the Hall of Fame trainer said. "I want to get that out of him and get him cooled down to where he was before. I want him smoothed out and settled down. That worked pretty well (in winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile)."
Action This Day, an early favorite for the Kentucky Derby, has yet to display his Juvenile-winning form in 2004. In his most recent start, he finished seventh in the 1 1/16-mile San Felipe (gr. II) at Santa Anita on March 14, weakening in the stretch after refusing to settle early. Mandella decided not to go in Saturday's Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), opting for the Blue Grass instead.
