Mineshaft Heads Kentucky-Bred Champions

Mineshaft , the nation's 2003 Horse of the Year and champion older male, and his dam, Prospectors Delite, headlined the award winners honored April 15 at Keeneland by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association/Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders. Mineshaft, a homebred for William S. Farish, James Elkins, and W. Temple Webber Jr., was chosen the Kentucky-bred Horse of the Year and top older male, and the partners' Prospectors Delite was voted the Kentucky Broodmare of the Year.

The other Kentucky-bred winners, and their breeder(s), were 2-year-old male Action This Day (Jaime S. Carrion, Trustee) and filly Halfbridled (Wertheimer & Frere); 3-year-old male Empire Maker  (Juddmonte Farms) and filly Bird Town (Marylou Whitney); older female Azeri (Allen E. Paulson); turf male Johar (The Thoroughbred Corp.) and female Tates Creek (Juddmonte Farms); sprinter Aldebaran (Flaxman Holdings); steeplechaser McDynamo (Nathan Fox, Richard Fox, Richard Kaster); and foreign winner Hawk Wing (Hill 'n' Dale).

The P.A.B. Widener Trophy Recipient went to Juddmonte. the Charles W. Englehard Award to Ercel Ellis Jr., and the Hardboot Breeders Award to Henry D. White.
