Mineshaft , the nation's 2003 Horse of the Year and champion older male, and his dam, Prospectors Delite, headlined the award winners honored April 15 at Keeneland by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association/Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders. Mineshaft, a homebred for William S. Farish, James Elkins, and W. Temple Webber Jr., was chosen the Kentucky-bred Horse of the Year and top older male, and the partners' Prospectors Delite was voted the Kentucky Broodmare of the Year.The other Kentucky-bred winners, and their breeder(s), were 2-year-old male Action This Day (Jaime S. Carrion, Trustee) and filly Halfbridled (Wertheimer & Frere); 3-year-old male Empire Maker (Juddmonte Farms) and filly Bird Town (Marylou Whitney); older female Azeri (Allen E. Paulson); turf male Johar (The Thoroughbred Corp.) and female Tates Creek (Juddmonte Farms); sprinter Aldebaran (Flaxman Holdings); steeplechaser McDynamo (Nathan Fox, Richard Fox, Richard Kaster); and foreign winner Hawk Wing (Hill 'n' Dale).
