"It's really a fun event," added Paul Rogers, WHAS Radio and co-emcee. "We try to ask questions that haven't been asked throughout the week. The Derby trainers are among their peers and it's great to have their personalities revealed."Again this year, a $1,000 scholarship will be named for every Kentucky Derby trainer who makes an appearance at the event. Advanced tickets for the event are $150 per person. Corporate tables and sponsorship packages are also available. For more information about becoming a sponsor of the dinner or to purchase tickets to the event, contact Vickie Garcia, KTOB/KTA, at 859 259-1643.
The annual Kentucky Derby (gr. I) trainers dinner will be held Tuesday, April 27, at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Louisville. The event features cocktails, dinner, presentations, and the infamous one-on-one interviews with the trainers of 2004 Derby contenders. Guests of the event get a ringside seat as media emcees Chris Lincoln and Paul Rogers pose some tough questions to each trainer. "What makes this event special is the audience is witness to the complete answers and explanations given by trainers regarding the preparedness of their equine athletes – there is no chance that their comments can be edited by the media into little sound bites," said Chris Lincoln, host of ESPN's Racing Across America and long-time event emcee. "Once we turn over the microphone, we never know what they might say! And, you may never see or read about these responses unless you're there."
