Private Emblem took the restricted Albany Handicap at Saratoga later that year and captured this year's Essex Handicap (gr. III) at Oaklawn. During his career, he won seven of 24 starts and earned $783,152. He was bred by Berkshire Stud and Oak Cliff Stables and produced from the Halo mare Merion Miss.
Private Emblem, whose unbeaten streak in the spring of 2002 helped bring national attention to his sire, Our Emblem, was euthanized after fracturing both sesamoid bones in his left front leg, according to Daily Racing Form. The injury occurred as the 5-year-old New York-bred approached the finish line during the running of the restricted King's Point Handicap May 2 at Aqueduct. He was euthanized that night.Campaigned throughout his career by James Cassels and Bob Zollars, Private Emblem started his 3-year-old season with wins in the Black Gold Handicap at Fair Grounds and Southwest Stakes and Arkansas Derby (gr. II) at Oaklawn Park. One of two sons of Our Emblem in that year's Kentucky Derby (gr. I), Private Emblem failed to perform to expectations and finished unplaced. The other son, War Emblem, won.
