Broad Brush, who was produced from the Hoist the Flag mare Hay Patcher, led the 1994 leading sire list and has sired 83 stakes winners, including champion filly Farda Amiga.
Prominent sire Broad Brush was taken out of stallion service the end of April at Graham J. Beck's Gainesway Farm near Lexington because of a problem with his left front ankle. The 21-year-old stallion had undergone arthrodesis surgery due to degenerative arthritis last October."He started favoring the ankle, so we felt we needed to restrict his movement when it comes to covering mares," said director of sales Michael Hernon. "He looks well. His coat and weight are good, and he's dappled out. We'll evaluate his condition in early June."Broad Brush has covered 26 mares. Several of the mares booked to him have been switched to other stallions.
