Mrs. James Winn's Pro Prado, 13th to Smarty Jones in the May 1 Kentucky Derby (gr. I), is expected to make his next start in the $200,000-added Northern Dancer (gr. III) on the June 12 "Stephen Foster Super Saturday" card at Churchill Downs.
Trainer Robert Holthus said Friday that the homebred son of El Prado was doing well in the days after the race. Pro Prado moved up to fifth in the Derby, but had nothing left for the run down the stretch.
But Holthus said he was glad to see the colt's owners and breeders, James and Juanita Winn, get a chance to run in the Derby. They also owned Proper Reality, the broodmare sire of Pro Prado who was fourth in the Derby in
"They're not big time breeders, but they've had two horses run in the Kentucky Derby," said Holthus. "That's pretty good for small-time breeders and they enjoyed it."
