The Maryland Jockey Club announced safety and security procedures for Preakness weekend, including the May 15 Preakness Stakes (gr. I) and the May 14 Pimlico Special (gr. I) /Black-Eyed Susan (gr. II). The track will again implement enhanced security procedures for its marquee events, with procedures being very similar to the enhanced procedures employed in 2002 and 2003. All persons and cars will be inspected upon entering.
There will be special cooler restrictions for Pimlico's grandstand and clubhouse on Pimlico Special and Black-Eyed Susan day and for the infield on Preakness day. Coolers, backpacks and thermoses will not be permitted. In the grandstand and clubhouse areas, all beverages and food items must be in clear, plastic bags or clear plastic containers not larger than 18" by 18". Coolers, backpacks and thermoses will be permitted in the infield, with the exception of oversized carrying devices. Coolers larger than 70 quarts or 28"L x 15"W x 17"H will not be permitted.
Items that will be allowed inside the track include beer, wine, and soda, carried in plastic containers or regular size cans and picnic lunches. Beach blankets and suntan lotion, along with cellular phones, cameras, camcorders, and binoculars. Lightweight plastic lawn chairs will be allowed in the infield only.
Liquor or drugs of any kind, along with weapons, tents, barbeques will not be allowed on the track.
