Tampa Bay Downs Grandstand Catches Fire

The Tampa Bay Downs grandstand suffered an estimated $1 million in damage Wednesday night when a fire broke out on the second floor.

The fire, which was contained to the northwest corner, started about 11:30 p.m. There were no injuries. Live racing ended at the facility May 2 and the few remaining horses in the stable area across the track were unharmed.

Tampa Bay Downs continues to be open for simulcasting.

Local television news reports put the damage from the fire at over $1 million.
