Ticker Tape Can Make Grade in Senorita

(from Hollywood Park notes)
British-bred Ticker Tape will seek her first win in graded competition on Saturday when carrying high weight of 121 pounds in Hollywood Park's $100,000 Senorita Stakes (gr. III) for 3-year-old fillies at one mile on turf.

The bay daughter of Royal Applause, imported from England late last year by trainer James Cassidy, drew the outside post in a field of eight. The Senorita will serve as a prelude to the 1 1/4-mile $750,000 American Oaks on July 3.

Ticker Tape is coming off victories in Santa Anita's China Doll and Providencia Stakes for the partnership of Southern Californians Jim Ford, John Cuchna and Deron Pearson. She made her U.S. debut at Hollywood Park last November when finishing second in the Miesque Stakes (gr. IIIT).

Kent Desormeaux, aboard in Ticker Tape's last three races, will be replaced in the Senorita by Corey Nakatani with Desormeaux in Baltimore to ride Imperialism in the Preakness. Ticker Tape owns an overall record of 4-4-1 in eleven starts for earnings of $237,311.

Trainer Bobby Frankel, who has won three past runnings of the Senorita, will send out a pair of 3-year-old fillies this year: Taygete, a French-import undefeated in two U.S. starts, and Miss Vegas, an Irish-bred who has won five of six starts while racing in Italy.

Amorama, who arrived at Hollywood Park from France last fall, hopes to begin to realize her potential Saturday for trainer Julio Canani. Amorama has closed strongly from far back to finish fourth, third and second, respectively, in three California starts at one mile on grass after capturing two of five outings in France.

"She worked an easy six furlongs a couple of days ago," said trainer Julio Canani Sunday. "She should run good again at a mile, but I think she will run even better going longer."
