Avenue of Flags, who has sired the career earners of $11.7 million while standing his entire career at the Mabee family's Golden Eagle Farm near Ramona, Calif., has been sold and will take up stallion duty at Double LL Farms near Bosque, N.M. The 16-year-old son of Seattle Slew covered all the mares booked to him at Golden Eagle this year and will head soon to Double LL. Bred by the late John Mabee and his wife, Betty, Avenue of Flags was grade II stakes-placed for Golden Eagle.
Avenue of Flags has sired 19 stakes winners, including grade I winner Joey Franco, who was 2003 California Horse of the Year. His five other graded stakes winners include grade I winner Notable Career, plus Belle's Flag and Fleet Lady, who each won the La Canada Stakes (gr. II).
"We know we have done well with Avenue of Flags, but there are too many Seattle Slew stallions on our roster," said farm business manager Janine McCullough.
The selling of Avenue of Flags, who was produced from the Pass the Glass mare Beautiful Glass, leaves Golden Eagle with other Seattle Slew sons Event of the Year
, General Meeting
, and King of the Hunt.
