Cape Cross Will Not Shuttle in 2004

Darley Australia announced that Cape Cross will remain in Ireland rather than shuttle to Australia in 2004.

Green Desert's Lockinge (Eng-I) winner had been due to work his first Australian season at Darley's Hunter Valley farm in New South Wales. He had shuttled between Darley's Kildangan in Ireland and Cambridge Stud in New Zealand's Waikato since 2000.

Cape Cross, out of Park Appeal, by Ahonoora, is currently one of the leading second crop sires in Europe and has 13 stakes horses from his first northern generation.

His 29 individual winners of 2003 in the United Kingdom saw Cape Cross the first stallion since Habitat to be crowned champion freshman and champion sire of 2-year-olds.

A Darley spokesperson said the 10-year-old has covered a very large book of mares in Europe and with due consideration to the horse's long term health, the decision was made to rest him.
